Previous NSEP Event

What Investors in Pharma and Biotech are looking for

And how to meet those expectations

Tuesday 1st March 2005, Four Seasons Hotel, London, 18.30

Event timing

The event starts at 6.30pm. The short talks and panel discussions last approximately 1¼ hours and will be followed by cocktails and canapés - the ideal networking opportunity. We are delighted that this networking evening will be held at the world famous Four Seasons Hotel, one of the most prestigious venues in the country.

About the event

With investors shying away from big Pharma at the moment, is this a golden opportunity for Biotech to increase their share of the pot or is it a temporary blip which will result in investors rushing back into big Pharma's (welcoming) arms? The big question is "what are the investors looking for?". Is it security, growth or a mixture of both and how should Biotech and Pharma companies respond to those demands?

This event will try to look at the problem from both sides: what the management should do to keep investors on board and what the stakeholders can reasonably expect of the management and their options should they not achieve those expectations.

In particular the following issues will be examined:

  • The extent to which people are investing in Biotech and Pharma and how this affects the expectations of other shareholders
  • Why pharmaceutical and biotech stocks will outperform the market in the long run and how to communicate this
  • How does M&A affect the shareholder value in the industry?
  • The different expectations of the institutional and private investors
  • Which companies offer the best investment potential - large, medium or small caps?
  • How investors spot winners
  • How management can demonstrate that their projects are winners
  • When should shareholders call time on management and how management should guard against this
  • Does the market need more corporate information and if so how to deliver this information
  • What management should do if it thinks that the share price is too low (or too high)

Networking evening

One of the main reasons to attend this event is the opportunity to meet other key players within the industry, whether they be CEOs, Finance Directors, other key Directors, Consultants, Lawyers etc. Due to the nature of this event NSEP will be particularly targeting the investors, including venture capitalists, banks, fund managers and corporate financial advisors.

The cocktail party immediately following the event (it is almost worth coming for the famous Four Seasons canapés themselves!) is the ideal place to discuss matters in a less formal environment, whether this discussion is directly related to the event topic or not.
